Nobody here is short of reviews

We measured every restaurant Google returns across eight Nassau towns in September. The median one carries 465 reviews and only 14 of 382 have fewer than fifty, so the advice every other category gets, ask for more reviews, is not where the gap is. What separates a restaurant on that screen is the rating, and the whole category is packed into a few tenths: the median is 4.4, 219 of 382 sit below 4.5, and 163 sit at 4.5 or better.

What 382 Nassau restaurants look like to Google

One sweep, September 2026, every restaurant Google returns across eight Nassau towns, read sixty results deep for each town, the same depth as the trade sweeps. The usual gaps are nearly absent: 0 of 382 are missing hours and 2 carry fewer than ten photos.

465median

reviews is the middle of this category, the highest median of the eleven Nassau lines of work we have measured. The next highest is dentists at 132. A hundred reviews here is a new restaurant.

219of 382

are rated below 4.5, and the median is 4.4, the lowest median rating of the eleven Nassau lines of work we have measured. Only 18 sit below 4.0, so the whole category lives between four and four and a half, and a rating of 4.5 or better puts you ahead of 219 of the 382.

For an Italian place it means a search for Italian food is matched on the secondary categories, and the primary one carries the most weight. It is a two-minute edit.

Source: the September 2026 Nassau sweep, 382 listings across 8 towns, read from Google's Places feed. This sweep looked sixty results deep for each town, the same depth as the trade pages. Categories are the primary type in the same feed, which is the label shown on the listing. 38 websites refused a request from our network and are recorded as unknown, not as faults. Photo counts appear only where they fall below ten, because Google returns at most ten photo references.

If the reviews are there and the tables are not full, this is you

A restaurant, pizzeria, diner, bar or cafe anywhere in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens or Brooklyn.

Hundreds of reviews already, and a rating that has not moved in a year.

Paying commission to a delivery app for customers who searched your name.

Not sure what your own listing says about you, and busy enough not to have looked.

What gets done, in the order a full room pays for it

The rating, moved in tenths

A reply on every review you have, an ask that goes out while the plates are still being cleared, and a plan for the one star that mentions the wait. In a category where the median is 4.4, two tenths is the difference on the screen.

The category a hungry search matches

Primary category set to the cuisine, not to Restaurant, and the secondary ones filled in. 95 of the listings we measured show the general type as primary.

A menu the phone can read

Menu link, dishes and prices on the listing, and on a site of your own rather than an app that charges commission. Somebody deciding between three places reads the menu on the listing.

A website that is yours

13 of the restaurants we measured send the website button to Facebook, Instagram or an ordering platform, and 12 more open with a security warning. A fast one-page site with the menu, hours and a booking link, on a domain you own.

The sweep behind it is a stored run with a date on it, and the score that reads five signals publishes its weights rather than describing them. Where something could not be measured, the page says so instead of estimating.

How the visibility score works

Common questions

We have hundreds of reviews. Why are we not busier?
Because the customer on the screen sees three restaurants with hundreds of reviews each, and reads the rating and the photos to choose between them. The median Nassau restaurant carries 465 reviews, so the count stopped separating anyone a long time ago. The rating did not: 219 of the 382 sit below 4.5, and the median is 4.4.
What is a good Google rating for a restaurant?
Above 4.4, which is the median across the 382 restaurants Google returns in eight Nassau towns. That is the lowest median of the eleven Nassau lines of work we have measured, and it is not a sign the food is worse. A restaurant collects a rating from everyone who walks in, on a bad night as well as a good one, while a roofer collects one from the customers who chose to write. So 219 of the 382 sit below 4.5 and only 18 sit below 4.0: the whole category is packed between four and four and a half, and two tenths is the distance between you and the place next door.
Does the delivery app count as our website?
Google will accept it in the website field, and 13 of the restaurants we measured have done exactly that. The cost is that every customer who taps Website lands on the app's brand and its commission, and an assistant asked for a recommendation reads nothing behind a login wall. A one-page site of your own with the menu and a booking link fixes both.
Should the category be our cuisine or Restaurant?
The cuisine, as the primary category, with Restaurant and anything else true as secondaries. Google matches a search for Italian food on the categories and weighs the primary one most. 95 of the 382 listings we read show the general Restaurant type as primary in Google's Places feed. Some of those are diners, where that is the right answer.
Do you work in Queens and Brooklyn as well?
Yes. The sweep on this page is Nassau because that is where the September measurement ran, and the work is the same across Suffolk, Queens, Brooklyn and the rest of New York City.
