37 of 81 Nassau landscapers do not come back for their own town

When we pulled every landscaper Google returns across eight Nassau towns, 37 of 81 never appeared in the first sixty results for the best landscaper in their own town. 61 are rated 4.5 or better, and that has not put them on the list. One thing we checked and can clear up: Google's Places data, the feed that apps and tools read, types every one of these businesses as a general contractor, because that feed has no landscaper type at all. The listing itself says Landscaper. A customer on Maps sees the right word; a tool reading the feed does not. What separates the ones who appear is below.

What 81 Nassau landscapers look like underneath

One sweep across eight Nassau towns, September 2026. Being rated well and appearing for your own town turn out to be different things.

37of 81

never appear in the first sixty results for the best landscaper in their own town. A whole year of new customers decides across a few warm weekends when everyone looks at the yard at once, and a ranking cannot be built inside that window.

48of 81

carry under twenty five reviews. The middle of the trade is 18, which is one review every three weeks of a season.

19of 81

sit on a flawless five out of fewer than ten reviews, which a homeowner reads as nobody has really tested them yet.

28of 81

show fewer than ten photographs, in a trade whose entire product is what a property looks like afterwards.

10of 81

publish no hours, so Google can never offer them to somebody searching on the Saturday morning they finally look at the yard.

Source: the September 2026 Nassau sweep, 81 listings across 8 towns, read from Google's listing data on the day. Photo counts stop at ten because that data returns at most ten. A separate read of Google's Places data typed all 54 landscapers it returned as general contractors; that feed has no landscaper type, and the listings rendered on Maps show Landscaper, so the category is not what this page can fault. Every county on this page is read sixty results deep, and no town in any of them held more businesses of one kind than the list had room for, so none of these counts is a town running out of room.

Seasonal, repeat, and won in early spring

Lawn maintenance, design and build, tree work, hardscaping or clean-ups, anywhere in Nassau, Suffolk or Queens.

Most of your work is the same properties every year and growth means new streets, not new services.

March and April decide your season and you are not visible in February when people start looking.

Your best work is photographed on a phone and lives in a camera roll nobody sees.

The category first, because it is one field and it gates the rest

The primary category, set to what customers type

Free, takes two minutes, and the first field to check. Every landscaper we rendered on Maps already showed Landscaper, so for this trade the category is usually right, and the check still comes first because a wrong one costs more than everything else on this page.

Services listed out by name

Mowing, spring clean-up, mulch, patios, tree removal, irrigation. People search the job, not the trade, and a listing that says landscaping answers none of those.

Finished properties, photographed in season

Before and after on the same lawn. Your work is the argument and almost nothing else in this trade is making it.

Hours, even seasonal ones

10 of the 81 publish none. Google will not put a business in front of somebody searching now if it cannot say the business is open now.

A review habit tied to the last cut of the season

One ask, at the moment the property looks its best and the invoice is being paid. The middle of this trade is 18 reviews, so one more than that moves you past half of it.

Named when somebody asks an assistant

We ask ChatGPT and Google's answer box for a landscaper in your town and show you the reply, including when it names somebody else.

Category, then pictures, then reviews

  1. Free snapshot

Business name and town. We read what Google has you filed as and tell you the same day, because that one field explains more here than anywhere else.

  2. Fix the filing

Category, services and hours. None of it costs anything and it is often most of the gap.

  3. Then build the evidence

Photographs and a review habit, measured again monthly against the landscapers beside you.

Every number on this page is one you can trace

The sweep behind it is a stored run with a date on it, and the score that reads five signals publishes its weights rather than describing them. Where something could not be measured, the page says so instead of estimating.

How the visibility score works

Common questions

How do I see what category Google has me in?
Open your Business Profile, go to Edit profile, then Business category. The primary one is what matters most. If it says anything that is not landscaping or lawn care, that is your first fix and it is free. Read it on your own profile, not in a tool: the feed tools read has no landscaper type and calls every landscaper a general contractor.
Does the category really change anything?
It is one field you control completely, and it decides which searches you are entered in. We are careful here: when we rendered the Maps listings of the landscapers we checked, they already showed Landscaper, so we will not tell you the category is your problem, and we will not promise a position from changing it.
My season is March to November. Should I set hours anyway?
Yes. Set hours that are true, including a closed winter if that is real. A blank hours field is not modesty, it removes you from every search Google answers with businesses that are open right now.
When should I be advertising for spring?
The profile work should be done before February because that is when searches start and the listing takes time to settle. Waiting until you are busy is the most common mistake in this trade.
What does this cost?
The snapshot is free and lands the same day. The full audit is $350 and it credits toward your first month. Ongoing plans start at $500 a month, month to month, and cancel in one email. Every price is on the pricing page with the arithmetic already done, rather than behind a call.

The same trade, four counties

We measured landscaping listings in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens and Brooklyn in September 2026, all read with the same instrument on 20 September, so the readings are comparable. Nassau and Suffolk sit level here and Brooklyn runs well below both, which is the reverse of what salons do.

Median review count

Nassau 18, Suffolk 18, Queens 16, Brooklyn 7. This is the bar a customer compares you against, and it is not the same bar one county over.

Not in the first sixty for their own town

Nassau 37 of 81, Suffolk 32 of 85, Queens 12 of 32, Brooklyn 32 of 62.

Website links that do not load

Nassau 7, Suffolk 6, Queens 2, Brooklyn 5. The cheapest defect on any of these listings to fix.
